Pages

Remove clickable links Web and phone links, usually in the footer, stop being clickable. Shapes that sit under a link may be what Canva fades, so this is on for Canva. Untick it if you need the links to keep working in the PDF.

Keep Chrome's viewer smooth Chrome runs text recognition on every picture of a page that has no real text, which makes scrolling stutter. This adds one invisible dot of text to each page so Chrome skips that. In Canva it may appear as a tiny, empty text box in the bottom-left corner of a page.

Smooth pictures when zoomed in Stops pictures breaking into blocky squares at high zoom. The pictures themselves are not changed, but some viewers draw zoomed pages more slowly with this on.

Sharpen blurry pictures Sharpens the edges in low-resolution pictures so text inside them looks crisper. Light keeps every picture at its size and format, so parts stay as quick to open and edit as the original. Strong and Maximum also enlarge pictures, which can lag. Sharpened pictures are re-saved rather than copied untouched, and no real detail is added.

What happens to your slides

With "text as shapes", pages are exact copies except for the text, which is redrawn as the letter shapes stored in the PDF's own fonts. Editors such as Canva replace real text with their own fonts when importing, which changes letters and moves lines; shapes cannot be re-typed. This works for the fonts that Canva, Chrome and Google tools put into PDFs. Pages with other kinds of font keep their ordinary text.

With "Locked pictures", each page is drawn the way a PDF viewer shows it and saved as a single picture. Nothing on it can be moved or re-typed, but text becomes part of the picture and is less sharp when zoomed. The rest of this section is about the exact copy.

Each page is moved into a new file with its fonts and graphics byte-for-byte identical, and its pictures too unless sharpening changes them. If several slides share an image or font, each part gets its own copy, so every part opens on its own.

Each part also keeps the document's layer settings and colour profile, so hidden layers stay hidden and colours look the same as in the original.

"Smooth pictures when zoomed in" adds a mark to each picture that tells the viewer to blend its pixels when enlarging, instead of drawing them as squares. It changes nothing in the picture itself.

"Sharpen blurry pictures" changes the pictures themselves. Light sharpens edges in pictures stored below 200 dots per inch and keeps their size, format and transparency, so nothing gets heavier and nothing moves. Strong and Maximum also enlarge those pictures to about 220 or 300 dots per inch and save them as high-quality JPEG: sharper at high zoom, but heavier to scroll, zoom and edit. No level adds real detail. For truly sharp slides, export them at a higher resolution before splitting.
